Ms. Rebecca Tamas, from Warners Bay High School, Central Coast, New South Wales,

has been announced as the recipient of the 2019 NSW Premier’s Kingold Chinese

Language Teacher Scholarship.

The announcement was made by the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and

Education Minister Rob Stokes at an event on 14 August 2018.

The $15,000 Scholarship will enable Rebecca to undertake a 5-week overseas study tour, and consult with experts and observe exemplary practices related to teaching Chinese language.

“This scholarship program will help make our best and brightest teachers in the State even better, ” Ms Berejiklian said.

“It will help teachers prepare their students for their futures in a time of rapid social, economic and technological change.”

Education Minister Rob Stokes said the scholarship recipients would gain confidence and motivation to apply new ideas, new teaching methods and new technologies to their professional practice.

“These scholarships are a wonderful chance for exemplary educators to get the opportunity to further pursue their fields of knowledge. I encourage more teachers to put themselves forward for study opportunities next year,” he said.

“When you return from your study tours I am sure that the students you teach will benefit from the knowledge you have gained and this will enrich and enhance their learning experiences in the classroom,” Mr Stokes said.

ACFEA’s Founding President and Kingold Group Chairman Dr. Chau Chak Wing said

the scholarship is an important avenue of support for NSW teachers and their students.

“The reason I support this scholarship program is based on the hope that more and more future Australian business leaders can master the key of language and culture to unlock Australia’s largest overseas market – China, whilst helping to promote exchange and cooperation in the areas of culture, trade and the economy between Australia and China.”

Dr. Chau and the Kingold Group has sponsored

the NSW Premier’s Kingold Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship since 2005.
